GHOST HOUSE

You slowly approach Emmie, gesturing for your friends to stay back. She watches you with big, wet eyes, cowering away from you as you approach. After a moment of hesitation, you crouch down in front of her.

KLAIR

Emmeryn. You're Emmie Albin. You're looking for your brother, right?

EMMIE

...Ha-Have you seen him?

KLAIR

I'm sorry, kiddo. I haven't. I don't think you'll find him here.

EMMIE

Oh...

She sniffles, smearing her face on her sweater sleeve.

KLAIR

I get what you've gone through. I just lost my brother, too. But... you know what?

EMMIE

What?

KLAIR

My brother wouldn't want me to spend the rest of my life moping about it. I don't know your brother, but he'd probably think the same, right?

EMMIE

But what if I miss him all the time?

KLAIR

That's alright. It's normal to miss people we've lost. But, uh... all we can do is hold them in our hearts and move on, really. Okay?

EMMIE

Um...

She considers this.

EMMIE

Okay. ...I'm sorry I caused so much mess. I was just... mad. I guess. Really, really mad.

KLAIR

I won't lie and say you weren't any trouble, but I get why you did. We've all been there. Or, not, uh, literally, but... uh, yeah.

Emmie giggles at this.

EMMIE

I think I'm ready to go now. You guys can leave now, too. The front doors are open.

LUKE

We should move. Once she disappears, the House will too.

EMMIE

No, it won't.

Luke seems surprised by this.

LUKE

Isn't this your House?

EMMIE

No way. I just live here. I'm more of, like... the maid, I guess. But-But once I move on, my control over this place will stop, and the doors will close again. So... you should go fast.

LEON

Yeah, the House existing after this can be an issue for us after we're not at risk of being trapped in here again.

KLAIR

...Right. Let's go.

The five of you head for the attic exit.

EMMIE

Klair?

You pause and turn to look at her.

EMMIE

I'm sorry about your brother.

...You smile at her, and exit the attic.
