BONNIE
There.
KLAIR
What're you doing?
BONNIE
Updating our map.
ISSAC
You've made it even more of a mess. Here, lemme see.
BONNIE
What? No. You'll draw something crass on it.
ISSAC
Well, it's better than this big blue mess you've scribbled here!
KLAIR
If you kids don't stop fighting, I'm turning this car around.
They play tug-of-war with the map for a second before Bonnie relents. Issac scribbles on the map.
ISSAC
There.
BONNIE
You drew a dick on it!
ISSAC
A ghost must've put that there!
You walk for a while into the darkness, completely uninterrupted. It seems you have a little time to yourself.
KLAIR
Hey, Bai. I have a question.
BAI
Yeah?
KLAIR
Have you been here for a while?
BAI
I think so! Time doesn't really work in here like it does outside. But... probably.
KLAIR
Has everyone who's... um... y'know... all the ghosts, were they all people once?
BAI
Yep! Even I was.
ISSAC
But why're they all weird? Why don't they look like people?
BAI
The longer you spend here, the less memories you have of your life. Most have been here for so long, they've just forgotten what they look like outright! So they mimic things around them instead.
KLAIR
S-So are we going to see anyone who looks like a person at all??
BAI
I mean, some ghosts are stronger than others. They hold some memories for longer. But... eventually, everyone forgets. Everyone except
her .
Their tone takes on an icy touch to it at the end of their sentence.
BONNIE
H...Her?
BAI
The
girl who owns this House. The girl who runs it. As long as she exists, the House exists.
BONNIE
And how does... How does she keep it running?
BAI
Oh, that's simple. The House lures people in, and the ghosts inside kill them. Their life keeps the House sustained.
ISSAC
So this chick's like... a... like a... ghosty... vampire... person. Or some shit.
KLAIR
Let me guess. She's in the attic, huh?
BAI
Afraid so! You'll need the key pieces to unlock the attic and confront her.
BONNIE
W-Wait! Why do we have to confront her!?
BAI
The House exists to keep everyone, living and dead, trapped eternally. If you want the House to let you go, you'll have to confront its caretaker.
KLAIR
You really could've led this entire adventure with that, you know.
BAI
Sorry! It didn't really come up, I guess. Um... hey, anyways, we're here.
They change the subject, and you realize you're at another dead end littered with scraps of paper and boxes.
